The Benefits Of This Old House

This Old House
When I was a kid, the selection of television shows available was not what it is today. Back then, there were less than twenty stations on my television set, and we didn’t spend much time watching anyway. We spent a lot of time outdoors, and television was something for evenings or rainy days. All the same, when we did watch, our mom made sure we watched a variety of different shows to expand our minds. One such show was This Old House and if I remember correctly, it was on PBS back then, and may still be today.
This Old House was a great show, even if I didn’t care for the host all that much. I was fascinated with how things looked behind the walls, and how a house is put together. This Old House was a well put together show, and was something that we could all watch together if we wished. Watching the show left me with an appreciation for what a house can be, and for those who spend their lives building and fixing them. It also showed me that the best things in life take a lot of work and consideration, and that when you really love what you do, no chore can be too tedious.
This Old House offered a glimpse into everything a house must have. It explained piping and heating, things we mostly take for granted. At the same time, it showed how the simplest things are often the first things that go wrong, which today helps to keep me from panicking when something goes wrong with my own home. It also showed the difference between the results of a quick patch job, and a job that is done carefully with love and consideration. This is knowledge you can use in all areas of life, and goes far beyond building or fixing up a house.
The show This Old House is still on television, though I believe there is a new host now. My husband is in construction, so he watches it from time to time. I am usually busy working while he’s watching, but the same formula for the show seems to be in place, from the bits and pieces I have heard. You may even find the old series of This Old House on DVD if you look online. Homes are something that everyone needs, so shows like This Old House are timeless, and something that anyone can enjoy on a lazy afternoon.
