01. Small Fry Fun - If your tiny-tot has a birthday soon, celebrate the event with a party. The little people at this starry-eyed age are easy to please with a variety of activities.

One of the most attractive birthday parties our small one ever attended was held from three to five p.m. This gave Tad plenty of time to have his nap so he went to the party well refreshed. Because of the youth of the guests we mothers were invited too. However, when we arrived our individual responsibility ceased for the afternoon.

02. For Girls - "I'm tired of always being the youngest in the family," sputtered the rebellious Linda one day. Her mother laughed at her crossness and then had an idea.

"How would you like to be a grandmother for a day?" she asked.

Linda forgot her crossness and brightened up, "How?" "How could I?"

"We could plan a Grandmother's party and invite your friends in for an afternoon tea like Grandmother used to enjoy when she was young."

03. For Boys - Tommy wanted a birthday party. In fact he insisted upon it. Naturally we hesitated. It would take some doing, we reasoned, to entertain a bunch of wrestling, scrapping, shoving young eight-year-olds.

Nevertheless a birthday can't be ignored. Nothing to do but settle down with young Tom and plan a party.

Tommy, screwing his face into a thoughtful frown, said, "I wish we could build something. All the guys like to saw and pound." That was the springboard of our idea.

04. Boys + Girls - "Ooo Grandmother! Where did you ever get so many empty spools?" Bobby was kneeling in front of a drawer in Grandmother's sideboard.

"I've been saving them, Bobby, all winter long. I thought maybe you'd like to have a spool party this vacation."

"A spool party?" Bobby's eyes opened wide in wonder. "I've never even heard of one."

"All the better," said Grandmother, as she reached into the drawer for a handful of spools. "These short fat spools would be good to write the invitations on. I'm sure there are enough for that."

05. Special Days - "I wish I had lots of brothers and sisters to make valentines with me." Barbara pushed her braids back over her shoulders as she sat on the floor, her "valentine makings" spread out before her.

"Next best to lots of brothers and sisters is lots of friends, Barbara," answered her mother. "How would you like to give a Valentine Bee?"

"What's that?" Barbara was immediately interested. "Well, it would be sort of a valentine party where you and your friends could make your valentines together."

Plans were immediately under way. Barbara made a fold of red construction paper and cut it heart shape. When it was opened up it read:

06. Everyday Fun - Just outside our back door is a vacation spot that our youngsters claim is tops for sheer fun. It is our own backyard recreation center that we created to solve the problem of idle vacation hours for our active sons and their friends. In the past our boys, like the others in the neighborhood, always greeted the summer vacation with unrestrained joy, but soon came the complaint heard all too often, "What can we do now, Mother?" We no longer hear this since we made our home playground.
