Tips For Chosing The Perfect Birthday Basket

There are many times when people need to have others reach out to them. As we go through life we all experience ups and downs, some of them we anticipate and others we do not. My girl friend recently found out that she has breast cancer. She is in the very early stages and is optimistic that it is treatable; however she is still very worried because she has a family history of breast cancer. This friend and I along with another friend were planning on getting together for her birthday. We have had a tradition for many years of getting together to celebrate. This year I thought I would make her a birthday basket to help her get through her troubling time.

We made arrangements to meet at one of our favorite restaurants. It was a place where we could take our time and have privacy. A few days prior to our lunch date I went shopping for the contents of the birthday basket. I wanted to include some of her favorite things to make her feel better over her upcoming medical appointments. The first thing that I needed was a container. I wanted something that would be pretty as well as functional. I found a step basket that I thought would be perfect. My friend has a split level house so she would be able to have the step basket set on the steps going up to her living room area. I decided that I would put a bottle of wine n the tall part of the birthday basket. In the shallow end I placed some bath products. I completed the birthday basket with a box of cashews and smooth dark chocolate as well as a copy of the newest best seller book.

I used colored shredded tissue paper in the bottom of the birthday basket. I put several strands of different colored curling ribbons on the handle and included a card. On the day of the luncheon I carried the birthday basket into the restaurant. Luckily I arrived prior to my friends so I was able to place it under the table so she did not see it immediately. We ordered our food as well as some wine. When the waiter left I reached under the table and brought out the birthday basket. My friend loved the step basket as well as the goodies that I had placed inside. She was planning on buying the book after we were done eating. We had a wonderful lunch; I know we took her mind off her medical problems for a while.
